Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park 1450 State Route Hwy 88 Minden, NV 89423
Home Ranch for the Holidays, an open-house celebration of the season that features a vintage toy exhibit, returns to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on selected days the first two weeks of December. The exhibit will be open Wednesdays and weekends, December 1, 4-5, 8, and 11-12, from 10:30-2:30 each of those days. Docents will be on hand to share the history of the family, house and artifacts, with visitors having expanded access into the various rooms of the historic house museum, built 1857-1917. The displays include toys from the 1870s through the 1890s that were played with by Fred Dangberg and his siblings, as well as numerous toys enjoyed by Fred’s five children and a grandson from 1901 through the 1940s. Construction toys, board games, card games and other items invite nostalgia for older folks and historical interest for younger. A Christmas tree featuring the Dangberg family’s ornaments is on display in the living room, with additional holiday decorations though the house. Displays of vintage Christmas cards, elegant winter coats, fine china and additional items from the Home Ranch artifact collection will also help celebrate the season. Admission is free for Friends of Dangberg members, with a $5 suggested donation for non-members. Reservations are not needed. The park’s store will be open, with a selection of interesting jewelry, Nevada and Carson Valley history books, photo notecards, and other gifts for adults and children. After the open house concludes, the ranch house will continue its regular visitor hours through the winter. The public can visit Wednesdays and weekends (Friday-Saturday), 10:30-2:30, unless inclement weather creates wet conditions. The grounds are always open for daytime uses, including family photography.
