DESCRIPTION:Storyteller presents tales of heroes and adventurers at Dangberg Historic Park\n\nMINDEN\, Nev.   Joan Stockbridge\, a professional storyteller\, will present "True Heroes and Mythic Adventurers" at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday\, June 24 at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public\, free to attend and includes stories for all ages of children and adults.\n\nStockbridge will tell a series of adventure stories designed to move\, entertain and inspire\, including the true story of a castaway who changed the course of history\, and a classic myth of a hero's journey. It is a participatory program for both adults and children that will cause the audience to consider their own capacity to overcome preconceived limitations.\n\n \n\nStockbridge has had a long career. From 1987 to 2002 she was the storyteller-in-residence at the Bishop's Ranch's "Family Camp" in Healdsburg\, California. Since 2000\, she has worked as a therapeutic storyteller with the Women's Empowerment Program\, a job training and life-skills program for homeless women in Sacramento\, where she developed a four-part curriculum to facilitate the redefinition of personal narratives. From 2003 to 2006 she was a therapeutic storyteller for the Placer County Mental Health Department\, and since 2004 has been a therapeutic storyteller at New Leaf Residential Program\, which serves women in substance abuse recovery.\n\n \n\nHer storytelling appearances include the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough\, Tennessee\, and performances and workshop presentations at the Southbay Storytellers' Winter Workshop\, the Healing Story Alliance Conference\, and the National Storytelling Conference. She is a co-author of Sierra Cloud\, The True Story of a Horse with Courage\, and the author of three other books on stories from Mexico\, Africa and Japan. She has served as the California state liaison to the National Storytelling Network\, as well as in various positions for the Arts Council of Placer County.
