SUMMARY:Guest Speaker at the Dangberg Ranch
DESCRIPTION:Portrayed by Anita Watson\, Emma Nevada was considered one of the finest coloratura sopranos of the late 19th century. She was born Emma Wixom in a mining camp near Nevada City\, California\, in 1859\, and spent much of her childhood in Austin\, Nevada. She adopted the stage name Emma Nevada to honor her Western American roots. She attended Mills Seminary in Oakland\, California\, then traveled to Europe and continued voice training before launching her career with a successful 1880 London debut. She later married a British physician\, who became her manager. Nevada retired from singing in 1910\, but continued to teach voice before her death in 1940. This event is supported by the Nevada Humanities Committee\, the National Endowment for the Humanities and NV Energy.
