The Family Support Council of Douglas County will be hosting the 6th annual "Grillin & Chillin" BBQ Cook-off at our beautiful Minden Park in historic downtown Minden, NV.
Approximately 20 local backyard amateur grillers will face off as attendees make their rounds from grill to grill.
Picnic table seating provided (or bring blankets to sit on lawn) no need to bring chairs.. Just come, eat, and enjoy.
All proceeds from the event, including donations, ticket sales, beverage purchases/gratuities go toward victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and families in crisis within the community.
It is a family event. No outside food or drink allowed!

The funds generated by the Grillin event will be used for Abby's Crossing. The Abbey Crossing Shelter Program has been full for the last year. The average length of stay is typically 3 months in which clients learn self-sufficiency. Support comes in the form of transportation assistance, goal management, and resources and referrals to housing, food, and job assistance. From January 2015 to December 2015, the confidential shelter provided to 23 adult and 65 children victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Family Support Council employs a full time Program Director to oversee the shelter facility as well as a part-time Case Manager to assist in the daily functioning and facilitate house meetings and goal-setting meetings.Specific areas the money will go to are Services that grants/other funding do not provide:
- Child care during job interviews and initial employment
- Transport to work during the initial period to save for a vehicle
- Assistance to move into an apartment
- Security items, such as replacement lights and cameras for exterior of the shelter
- Simple utilities for the shelter
- Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc
- Ongoing building maintenance
- Courses and certificates to provide careers to victims
- Housing for individuals we would turn away otherwise due to lack of space
